WM Obesity PSA Group

Terms of Reference

The Group will meet quarterly and its membership (see below) is based around the national cross-government steering group, to include representatives from DH, DEFRA, DfES, DCMS with co-opted members from other regional agencies eg Advantage West Midlands (AWM), West Midlands Regional Assembly (WMRA), West Midlands Public Health Observatory (WMPHO) and NHS West Midlands as appropriate.

The Group will:

  • Take a strategic review of delivery of the Regional Obesity Programme’s programme of work
  • Receive and monitor regular reports on the expenditure of the Obesity Programme Development Funding 2007/08
  • Feedback into and influence both the national Regional Leads Meeting for Food and Physical Activity and relevant DH Policy Teams
  • Link to and influence the strategic direction of existing regional networks related to tackling obesity, eg PAN WM; the Regional Food in Schools Action Group and Healthy Schools
  • Make regular communications and disseminate the West Midlands Obesity Bulletin update newsletter on a quarterly basis
  • Consult and coordinate marketing and promotional activities and research
  • Discuss forthcoming activities, eg social marketing resource toolkit launch
  • Organise regional events to review progress, scope current work and disseminate good practice.

  • DHWM, including Children’s and Obesity Leads
  • Children and Learner’s Group, GOWM
  • Regional Healthy Schools Co-ordinator
  • Sport England West Midlands, including Regional Physical Activity Co-ordinator
  • Regional School Food and Health Co-ordinator
  • Regional Breastfeeding Co-ordinator
  • Regional School Travel Plan Co-ordinator
  • Regional Extended Schools Co-ordinator
  • DCMS
  • DEFRA
  • AWM
  • SHA
  • Play England
  • National Social Marketing Centre (West Midlands)
  • Other members to be co-opted as appropriate
